an update on little miss h...

So much focus has been on this upcoming baby lately that I thought it was time for a Hazel post. Hazel is the sweetest, most enjoyable little kid on the planet. She has this zest for life that is unmatched by anyone else I've ever met. Everything excites her- not just brings a smile to her face, but makes her jump up and down, scream with glee and clap her hands, excites her. The other day we went to Wheeler Farm and she saw the cows and did her above form of excitement and then ran to the fence and stuck her head through and started "moo-ing" at them. She makes me and Tom and whoever she is around laugh all day. Hazel is a really good girl too. She loves to share (especially food), be all together (she'll point to us and say, mama, dada, and hazel with a big smile], and she can't stand to be in trouble, or make anyone sad. When she starts crying for something and we say, "No, what do you say?", she puts her finger to her mouth and "shhs" herself until she's calm and then says please. And when she accidently bumps you- or even the wall- she says "sorry" and does kisses. Seriously the sweetest thing. We can't even stand how much we love this little monkey.
As far as the baby thing goes, she doesn't really understand the whole baby in mama's tummy idea, or that a baby is actually coming, but she'll discuss other parts of it with me. For example, today she let me just snuggle her in my arms while we were rocking in her chair and I said, "Hazel, will you be really nice to your baby brother and make sure he doesn't get owies and be a good big sister?". She thought about it for a minute and looked up at me and said "Nooo." I choked back my laughter and thought, hey, at least she's honest, right? I've also tried out a few names with her just to see what she liked and I couldn't stop laughing at how cute she sounded when she said them- "Chaweee" for Charlie, "Dwew" for Drew, "Dunnan" for Duncan. She even helped me go through his clothes today and she would hold each piece up and say "for baby". I just love hanging out with this kid.
On the other hand, I've been fairly worried about how Hazel will handle actually having the new baby around. She loves her own doll- she'll wrap her in a blanket and pat her back and snuggle her. But when it comes to a real baby and mom holding it, let's just say she doesn't do well. For example, when I held Stella for the first time, Hazel nearly had a stroke- immediately starting screaming and flailing and trying to get the baby away from me. She was so upset. I got this pit in my stomach and thought, how are we going to do this in 3 weeks? But then we tried something new and it gave me hope. We had Hazel hold the baby and told her it was her baby. She was thrilled. She had a huge smile and when I tried to take the baby away, Hazel held on tighter and said "mine!" So maybe if we play it like this is her baby, she'll be ok. It's worked out great to have Stella around as kind of a practice run before we have our own baby around, so thanks Whit for the help! In any case, wish us luck, because I'm not counting on it being a totally smooth adjustment...especially when she admits first hand that she's unwilling to be a nice big sister! (:

Here is a little glimpse of what Miss H has been up to these last few months...

she's really getting into drawing/coloring lately...and she has to be an inch away from the page while she does it!

she is OBSESSED with the swings...when I tell her we're going to the park she says, "swide and swing, swide and swing, swide and swing" the whole way there. she'll stay on the swing for an hour if I let her.

she loves, loves, loves to read...and sit on chairs just her size

she loves anything girlie- makeup, purses, SHOES...I'm telling you they are born with these tendencies...this is a girl through and through

she loves acting like a big girl- even crossing her legs when she sits!

we've been going to Gymboree the last couple months and she loves it there!

wanting to grow up so fast..she loves pretending to be mom- pushing the stroller, with a purse/bag and talking on the cell phone (this is at PBK which she loves to play at... she didn't have a cell phone this time but at home she'll push her stroller around and chat, chat, chat on the phone as she goes).

We love our Hazel and can't believe how fast she's growing up!

She is so cute! I love the picture with her legs crossed.
Addie hated when I held other babies. She was NEVER horrible to connor, but she ignored him. One day I think she thought, "I guess he's here for good". Good luck!
