Mothers Day
First of all, I want to say how incredibly blessed I am by the mothers-and women- in my life. Especially my own mom. She is beautiful, unconditionally kind, Christ-like, full of love and compassion, selfless, giving, fun-and funny, smart, genuine, grounded, and the cutest grandma in the world! She is my best friend (only 2nd to Tom). Days when I'm not with her are lousy...she brings so much light and love and help into my life. If I am half the mother she has been to us then I will be a true success as a mom. I love you mommy! Thanks for teaching me all about the kind of person I want to be! I LOVE YOU!!
Secondly, I want to express the intense gratitude I feel for the opportunity to be a mother myself. To serve someone so completely and lose yourself....therein I have found the truest form of love...and the deepest form of joy. I am convinced there is no greater happiness than being a mother- and a wife. Being a woman. On Mother's Day I took Hazel outside of my grandma's house to rock her to sleep. In the middle of crying, she just stopped and stared up at me- like she had found something. With her tiny hand wrapped around my finger, she smiled and softly cooed, looking at me as if I were the best thing on earth. We just sat, staring in each others eyes, in a moment where I felt such peace and a sense of belonging as a mother to this child. I looked around, soaked in the moment, with the sun shining through the trees and a soft breeze passing over us, and at this angel God has blessed me with... and I knew- in a clearer way than ever before- that nothing else matters. Life is love. Life is family. Life is this sweet baby girl in my arms. Life is being a mother.
We were able to have dinner at the Hendersons and at my Grandma Koplin's house, visit my mom, and Tom gave me some gorgeous roses to celebrate the day. I am so thankful for the beautiful Mother's Day I had.
